Life Line
A.I.R Gallery, New York

Press Release

A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to announce Life Line, an installation of drawings and books by artist Louise McCagg. This exhibition will be on view from October 31st – November 30th, 2013. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 7th, from 6-9pm.

McCagg shows a series of drawings comparing her present line to that of her older drawings. Apparently controlled, these earlier works are actually a product of uncertainty and unease. Paired with newer works that are more open to these feelings of disorientation, these drawings are a result of a calmer approach to the subject and a more assertive relationship to drawing.* As an artist, McCagg has cast her line in a variety of materials, with many people, and places. In Life Line, she exhibits a series of hand made books each representing a single person she has collaborated with in the past. Both the drawings and the books come together at A.I.R. Gallery as a single installation.

McCagg lives and works in New York City and has exhibited her work throughout the United States and internationally at galleries and other venues which have included The Venice Biennale, The Sculpture Center, (New York), and Sejong Arts Festival (Seoul). McCagg’s work has been collected by major museums, universities and other institutions including Lyman Allyn Museum, New London, CT.; The New York Public Library Collection; Kresge Art Museum, East Lansing, Michigan; Yale University Library, New Haven, CT.; Museum of Fine Art, Budapest, Hungary; Petöfi Museum of Literature, Budapest, Hungary; and Saint Stefan Museum, Székesfehérvár, Hungary.

*McCagg developed Parkinson’s disease in 2000.
